RE: Florida (maybe Georgia) under Hurricane Alert -- August 16

If it follows its projected path, Fay won't get the chance to reach open water and gain too much strength.
IF...
Let's hope that is the case!
Yup, we are watching this one. We are suppose to move my son over to Tallahassee this week to go to FSU. We will watch this one very closely.
Wow! My first week at FSU...oh so many moons ago, I think it was Hurricane David -- rained for a week and I ran out of dry shoes :)
Hope your trip to Tallahassee goes well. Maybe this storm will fizzle before it reaches the panhandle.
If wishing made it so...
:) Just hoping it won't be too bad. He's on the third floor and I DON'T WANT TO GET SOAKED moving him in....lol

Substitute for Dutch Oven?

I have a recipe that calls for a dutch oven that you put into an oven. I don't have a dutch oven, so what could I use instead of it? Most of my pots and pans have plastic handles, so that can't go into an oven. Help!

RE: What to do with Canned potatoes

Wow...thanks to all the responses. Growing up in my house (we camped all the time as well), that is what my mom always used camping. I haven't bought them in years and they were buy one get one free...so I picked them up. But there they sit in my cupboard. I just couldn't bring myself to cook them.
But thanks to you all....I have alot of great ideas. Thanks!!! :)

What to do with Canned potatoes

I have a couple of can's of canned potatoes. I don't know why I bought them, but I did. Because I'm not really crazy about them. Has anyone used canned potatoes in any of their recipes? And if so, how was it? Please share any recipes that you might have.
Thanks

RE: Which one ... Topsail, Camping on the Gulf, Emerald, Navarre

Anyone know anything about these Topsail sites?
2,4,5,6,7,9 - all 34' length
11, 87, 146 - 35'+
We've been in some tight spots before and since we're staying a week wanna be comfortable. We'll have a Chevy 2500 crew cab/long bed and 35' (overall length) TT to park
There really isn't a bad site at Topsail at all. The only thing is, the sites 2-17 are up in the front and there is ALOT of activity because that is the only way in and out of the campground. 87 is a good site, I have stayed there and ANY sites in the 100's is good! :)

RE: Showers at Topsail Hill?

Thank you - yes - Topsail Hill SP in Florida. I was not very specific - sorry. Has anyone camped along row 138-144? It looks fabulous - on the map - looks like it backs up to wooded area and looks very private. I am amazed that the park is already 1/2 reserved for Christmas. I lead a sheltered life!!!:)
I read this forum a lot and there are many, many posts about Topsail - it sounds like it is extremely popular.
Yes, we just got back a couple of days ago and stayed on site 139. LOVED IT. It was very spacious and I loved the fact that the dirt road behind us was there (were the campground host live). No one used it and it was my short cut to the bathhouses.

RE: Showers at Topsail Hill?

Yes, they have 2 bathhouses. One is very small (close to the pool) and the other one that is in the 100's section is much bigger. They have about 5 shower stalls and the bathhouses are air conditioned. They are very clean and well maintained.

RE: Woman Hit by a deer at TopSail

I just read this on our local TV station website...how scary. I hope this isn't one of our members, and mostly that she will be okay.
Woman hit by a deer
That wasn't at the campground. There is a condo in Destin called Topsail and that is were it happened. We just got back from there today.
I didn't realize there was a condo with the same name. Still, seems weird that deer were in the bushes of a condo. A crazy occurance wherever it happened.
It's actually called Tops'l. The Destin newspaper had reported on it. The condo has woods behind/beside, etc. When I first read it in the paper over there, I was freaking out. I asked the ranger and they said NO, it wasn't here. Whew.....I really hope that women is OK.

RE: Looking for a frozen drink

It looks like pretty much everyone uses rum over vodka. I'm taking the recipe with me when we leave to go camping and I'm going to give it a try. :)

RE: St. Andrews Site 96

Can anyone give me any feedback on site 96 at St. Andrews? We will be in a 33 ft 5th wheel. I want to see water from the back of my camper.
Thanks!
You are right on the water. You will have NO problem seeing the water from the back of your camper. Plus, most of the sites in that section do not have a "beach", but huge rocks. You however will have a beach area to walk around on. :) Have fun.

RE: Beach @ Destin/Topsail

Just got off of phone w/my best friend. They are in PC Beach & she said the beach had lots of seaweed in it. Anyone know if it's the same at Destin/Topsail now. We are leaving Sun or Mon. for Topsail. I'm so hoping for a pretty beach!! This will be are only beach trip this year!!
We are leaving for Topsail Friday and will be there through Wed. I do know here in P.C. there is seaweed and jellyfish. It seems to be in spots though. You can find areas that are clear to swim in.

RE: Looking for a frozen drink

No,the correct name is Summer Slushie, there was a request for this just last week, here it is again
One 12 oz. can of frozen OJ concentrate
One 12 oz. can of frozen lemonade concentrate
One 46 oz. can of Dole pineapple juice
2 or 3 cups of your favorite rum OR vodka
Mix the above ingredients together and freeze. Do NOT add any water. The
alcohol will keep the mixture from freezing solid, and will allow you to
scoop it out easily with an ice cream scooper.
Fill a glass halfway with the frozen ingredients, and add 7-Up the rest of
the way. Stir and enjoy!
One of the best things about this cocktail is that you can prepare it well
in advance, store it in your freezer and scoop it out as you need it,
without spending a lot of time in your galley!
Oh yea.....now your talking. Now to decide....rum or vodka, which would taste better? 2-3 cups....that seems alot though??? :)
2-3 cups is 16-24 ounces. The other part of the mix is 70 ounces. That's 26% (24/94 (70+24=94)) alcohol. BUT you then dilute it 50/50 with 7-up. So, 13% alcohol, or 26 proof.
A rum and coke, if mixed 1 part rum to 3 parts coke (a little weak if you ask me), assuming 80 proof rum, would be about 10% alcohol, by way of comparison (80 proof = 40%; diluted to 1/4 = ~10%, 20 proof).
So, you may want to consider increasing the amount of rum/vodka in the original recipe.
Ahhh...didn't think about it that way. Thanks for "breaking it down" for me. :)

RE: Headed to Topsail on July 19th

The good thing is the 2 sites we have are only 4 sites away from each other. So I can just walk stuff over to the new site. :)
Can't wait. Need a vacation after just having family in for 2 weeks for a family reunion and getting my son ready to move off to school.

RE: Headed to Topsail on July 19th

Well, we decided to go a day early. We were able to get a campsite for Friday and then we will move to our other site on Saturday.
I hope that isn't going to be a pain to do. Has anyone done this before?

Looking for a frozen drink

I'm looking for an alcoholic drink that you can make up ahead of time and keep in your freezer and when your ready to drink it, just scoop it out and drink or add sprite to it.

RE: St Andrews State Park Campground FL

They always close off 1/2 the park every winter to do this. Reserve America or the park will notify everyone so they can get a differant campsite.
